There is something truly wonderful about ‘the breakfast cigar’. It is at once both an eye opener and yet a mellower. A wonderful feature from the nicotine derived from tobacco is its ability to serve as both a stimulant and a relaxant with a wonderfully subtle psychotropic effect.
I prefer a strong black coffee in the morning alongside either a Cuban Punch ‘Punch’ or a My Father’s Cigars ‘My Father’. I don’t know what it is about these double named cigars that appeal to me first thing in the morning, but they certainly do the trick. I find that at breakfast, one should aim for a quality, medium-bodied cigar that is interesting, but neither overly complex or super robust. It’s about plotting the course for how you want your day to go.
These morning cigars are especially delightful on weekends. First you ready your coffee (that you may or may have not fortified with a little ‘something extra’ to help straighten you out from the previous night’s exertions), then you grab your stogie and head outside. Light your first one of the day and take a good solid puff that you can chase with a sip of coffee. Think about how you got to where you are and where you would like to go. These thoughts could be about life in general or simply about the afternoon ballgame you intend on watching in your favorite chair.

Coffee and tobacco were the exports that built our New World. As the artists, writers and thinkers of Old Europe used coffee and tobacco to fuel their endeavors, why shouldn’t we? Having a breakfast cigar means that the rest of the day can’t be all bad, because it began with this special little ritual that you took for yourself.
